What is SASI?

SASI stands for Screen Act Screen Industry and is a special membership class of Canberra Business Council which provides members with benefits, discounts and access to subsidised public liability insurance.  ScreenACT is managed by Canberra Business Council.

Can I get the Insurance without being a member of SASI?

No. You must be a member of the organisation in order to access the insurance that has been purchased by the organisation.  This is because we have purchased a blanket insurance policy.

Why is this associated with Canberra Business Council?

ScreenACT is actually an initiative, not a company.  It is delivered on behalf of the ACT Government by Canberra Business Council.  Therefore the Council has taken out the policy.   To differentiate between you ( and to ensure that you can be covered by the insurance policy) and other members of the Council, a new membership class of the Council has been formed called SASI.

What does the insurance cover?

$20 million Public Libability and limited equipment loss and damage. It also only covers non-commerical filmmaking e.g. short films.  Please read conditions on form.

How long am I covered for?

As this is a blanket insurance policy, you are only covered for the time that blanket policy is in place which is one year from 24th January, 2012.  So if you purchase your insurance in January, 2012 you are covered for a year.  But if you purchase in June, you are only covered for six months.

What is considered non-commerical filmmaking?

Short films that have little to no expectation of a commerical return, proejcts without broadcast or distribution attachments.

Can I upgrade my insurance level if it turns out I need to shoot more than 3 or 10 days?

Yes, please contact the team at Financial Integrity chris@financialintegrity.com.au

Can I read the full insurance details?

Yes.  They are included in the SASI INSURANCE APPLICATION FORM

How do I get the SASI Insurance cover?

You must be a SASI Member first.  You can join HERE.  Then you can purchase the insurance by filling in and returning the application form (available HERE) and paying via the Insurance page HERE.

How much does the insurance cost?

You first have to be a SASI Member, which costs $50 incl GST per year per person.  Then insurance is costed out in the following manner:

How can you offer such a low-cost rate for Public Liability Insurance for filmmakers?

We pay a (very high) premium to an insurance company and charge you a MUCH reduced rate so that you can have affordable access to insurance.  We believe filmmakers should be insured when filmming on location and that's why we cover the rest of the cost of the policy.

Who do I contact if I have specific questions about the insurance policy?

You need to deal with Financial Integrtiy directly in relation to any insurance questions you may have. They are the experts.  Also, as your insurance brokers, Financial Integrity will be liable to you for the quality of the advice they provide.
You can contact them through Mr Chris Howe
Financial Integrity General Pty Ltd
PO BOx 4626, Kingston ACT 2604
Ph: 02 6175 9800 email: chris@financialintegrity.com.au

Can I access the SASI Insurance if I don't live in Canberra or the region?

Yes. As long as you're a member of SASI, you can purchase the insurance cover. The only limitation is that your residence and your shooting locations be within Australia.

How do I take up the offers for discounts?

You simply show your membership card or quote your membership number when making payments or bookings with the listed SASI discount participating businesses.

What are the benefits of being a SASI Member?

The benefits are as listed on the SASI Information Page and are added to and changed from time to time.  Members will be notified of changes to benefits.

Who runs SASI?

SASI is a membership class of Canberra Business Council, administered by the CBC's initiative ScreenACT.  As a sub class or membership, it does not allow voting rights or other CBC membership rights, only those as noted on the SASI information page on this website.
